5 Documents Every Filipino Needs to Work in Europe
Getting your documents right is the most important step in your overseas work application. Missing or expired documents are the number one reason applications get delayed. Here's exactly what you need and how to get each one.
Valid Passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 12 months from your intended departure date. If it's expiring soon, renew it first — don't wait.
How to get it: Apply at the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) website at passport.gov.ph. Book an appointment, pay the fee (₱950 for regular, ₱1,200 for express), and attend your scheduled appointment.
Processing time: 15–20 working days (regular) or 7–10 working days (express).
NBI Certificate of Good Conduct
The NBI clearance proves you have no criminal record. European employers require this as part of their background check.
How to get it: Go to nbi.gov.ph, create an account, book an appointment, and pay the fee online (₱130). Visit your chosen NBI branch on your appointment date.
Processing time: Same day or 1–3 days if your name has a 'hit' (common name match). Make sure it's issued within 6 months of your application.
Health Certificate (Blood Exam)
This is the document most people get wrong. A health certificate is NOT a general medical check-up — it's a specific blood test that must show you are free from HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.
Requirements: Must be in English, issued within the last 3 months, from an accredited clinic or hospital.
How to get it: Visit any accredited clinic or hospital and ask for a 'pre-employment blood test for overseas work.' Cost: ₱500–₱1,500. Results: 1–2 days.
Updated CV in English
Your CV is your first impression with European employers. It should be clear, professional, and in English.
What to include: Personal information, work experience (most recent first), education, skills, and languages. Keep it to 1–2 pages.
Passport-Size Photos (Recent)
You'll need recent passport-size photos for various application forms and visa documents. Make sure they're taken within the last 6 months against a white background.
Tip: Take more than you think you'll need — visa applications often require multiple copies.
