Germany Soon to Recruit Skilled Filipino Workers: Electricians, Engineers & More
Germany has officially expressed interest in hiring skilled Filipino workers beyond the traditional focus on nurses — opening doors for electricians, electrical engineers, and workers in the hospitality sector.
What Germany Said
According to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Undersecretary Patricia Yvonne Caunan, Germany made clear that their demand for Filipino workers extends well beyond the healthcare sector:
"Germany said they want to hire skilled workers other than nurses, including electricians, electrical engineers, and different kinds of workers in the hospitality sector."
The Joint Declaration of Interest
Germany and the Philippines recently signed a "joint declaration of interest" on the recruitment of overseas Filipino workers. The declaration emphasizes that the Philippines wants a "win-win situation" — where recruitment is sustainable and does not lead to labor shortages back home.

Building on the Triple Win Program
This development builds on the existing Triple Win Program — a government-to-government initiative that has been running for over 10 years. Germany's new Skilled Migration Act, which began phased implementation in November 2023, signals the country's intention to welcome significantly more skilled workers.
